What Sets EBC Apart? 


Esther B. Clark School (EBC) is a therapeutic day school for students with significant social-emotional and behavioral challenges.

EBC is a California-certified nonpublic school serving K–12 students from more than 70 Bay Area districts.

Our integrated program combines mental health services, behavior support, and academics to help students re-engage in learning, build self-regulation and social skills, and develop the confidence needed to transition back to a more traditional school setting.

EBC serves Bay Area students at two campuses in Palo Alto and San Jose, offering therapeutic, behavioral, and academic support in a structured, caring environment where students can thrive.

Palo Alto Campus

Located at CHC’s Palo Alto headquarters, our campus offers a welcoming setting with integrated clinical, behavioral, and academic support. We serve students in grades K–12.

San Jose Campus

Located in San Jose, our South Bay campus provides on-site clinical, behavioral, and academic support to help students re-engage in learning. We serve students in grades 5–12.

Enrollment Process for Esther B. Clark School Starts at the District Level:

If you are interested in placement at EBC, please talk to your home district.

District-based IEP team agrees to seek placement at a nonpublic school.

The student’s home district sends a referral to EBC.

Initial conversation between EBC and caregiver(s) to exchange information and explore a potential placement.

Student and caregiver(s) tour EBC campus, participate in an intake session with the EBC leadership team and receive further information about the EBC program.

If all parties are in agreement on the appropriateness of the setting, the student’s district is notified of the student’s official acceptance to EBC.

The district amends the student’s IEP to reflect the addition of specialized services delivered in the nonpublic school setting.

A start date is determined and transportation is arranged, if applicable.

Our Students

EBC is designed to meet the educational needs of students with existing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). Many have struggled in previous school settings, and EBC offers the support and structure they need to reconnect with learning and begin to thrive.
