Our Program

Life at EBC

At Esther B. Clark School, we work to create a community where students and staff feel valued, connected and empowered. For many of our students and families, school hasn’t always felt like a place where they belong. Our goal is to change that by helping students rebuild trust in themselves, in others, and in the learning process.

How We Help

Every part of our program is designed to meet students where they are academically, socially, and emotionally. Then guide them toward greater stability, connection, and success.

Academics

Supporting Diverse Learners

EBC students are diverse learners—some are working at grade level, some above or below, and others are catching up after missed instruction or managing learning differences.

Our teachers meet each student where they are, using personalized strategies and tools such as:

  • Visuals and manipulatives
  • Audiobooks
  • Assistive and integrated technology
  • Chromebooks provided to every student

Behavior

At EBC School, we understand that behavioral challenges are a manifestation of emotional dysregulation, and do not define our students.

Our behavior program is built on the core belief that all students want to be successful, and are capable of developing self-regulatory skills in a safe, supportive, and consistent environment.

Behavior is Communication

Students at EBC may display maladaptive behaviors to express an underlying need.  Under the direction of our on campus BCBA, we work to build strategies and supports to get those needs met.  Our staff are highly trained in understanding that the externalized or internalized behavior is much more than what we can see, and with the support of our multidisciplinary team, we work collaboratively to design plans, supports and interventions to support the student in getting their needs met in a new way.

With the expertise of EBC’s program and staff, children with social-emotional challenges re-engage in learning and develop positive skills to transition back to a more traditional  less restrictive school environment.

Positive Behavior Teaching at EBC

At Esther B. Clark School, we use a proactive, student-centered behavior system called Positive Behavior Teaching (PBT) to help students thrive—both emotionally and academically.

How PBT Works:

Students receive behavior scores each class period based on clear, schoolwide expectations. With support from a Classroom Behavior Specialist, they:

  • Set daily behavior goals
  • Reflect on their choices
  • Learn to make decisions that lead to positive outcomes

Positive reinforcement, such as outdoor time or drawing, helps motivate progress and growth.

Real-Time Support

  • Immediate, clear, and positive guidance
  • Help navigating challenges as they arise
  • Encouragement to stay on track without focusing on consequences
Bridging School & Home
  • Caregivers can implement a personalized PBT plan at home
  • Guided by the school’s Behavior Specialist
  • Builds consistency and supports behavior goals beyond the classroom
Skills That Stick
  • Build self-awareness and emotional regulation
  • Learn strategies to manage stress and impulses
  • Develop resilience, confidence, and independence for school and life

Therapy at EBC

At Esther B. Clark School, therapy is a core part of each student’s experience. Every student receives four dedicated therapy sessions per week, designed to support emotional growth, resilience, and family connection.

Individual therapy

Individual & Family Therapy

  • Each student is paired with an onsite school therapist upon enrollment.
  • Weekly sessions include:
    • 1:1 therapy for the student
    • Family therapy to support caregiver involvement and communication
  • Students can also request additional check-ins with their therapist as needed.
  • Therapists collaborate closely with classroom staff to support goals and reinforce strategies throughout the school day.
CHC group art therapy

Classroom Structure

Students participate in two small group therapy sessions each week:

  • Art Therapy:
Held in our fully equipped on-campus studio, students explore the creative process as a tool for self-expression and emotional regulation.
  • Therapeutic Activity Group (TAG):
Combines talk-based and activity-based approaches to help students build trust, explore emotions, and strengthen coping strategies in a supportive setting.

Related Student Support Services

Highly qualified professionals provide onsite related services to students as designated by the student’s IEP. These professionals collaborate closely with the student’s classroom team, therapist and caregivers to maximize their support and progress.
