Psychoeducational Evaluations

We provide evaluations for suspected learning disabilities or ADHD. These evaluations provide insights into how you think and learn, offering practical strategies to overcome challenges and build on your strengths—whether at school, work, or in daily life.

We All Learn in a Variety of Ways.

An SLC learning specialist is a dedicated expert who will help you understand your learning and attention challenges and work with you to develop a personalized toolkit with solutions designed to maximize your potential.

We do not offer content tutoring. Instead, the strategies we teach are designed to be applied across various subjects and assist in managing life’s daily demands.

Learning specialist sessions focus on:

Growing self-awareness, skills and behaviors to optimize performance in and out of the classroom

Realizing personal strengths and attributes you can employ effectively in the classroom

Developing self-advocacy skills to further accentuate your innate talent and intellectual prowess

Practicing to become an efficient user of recommended accommodations

Mastering the use of technology designed to improve reading, writing, time management, and productivity

Preparing for tests and post exam analysis

Preparing for success in adulthood after graduation to college or the workplace

Transforming your lived experience by focusing on your strengths

FAQs

Learning specialists use an e-portfolio tool to document the recommended strategies that have been effective or ineffective. Students are encouraged to implement these strategies in their schoolwork between sessions. The learning specialist establishes learning goals at the beginning of each session and students are invited to provide feedback on their progress toward these goals every 4 to 5 sessions.

Our address is 650 Clark Way in Palo Alto. We are across from the Stanford Mall, north of Sand Hill Road. We offer free parking. The Stanford Marguerite Shuttle – S Line stops just minutes from our building. We are a 10-minute bike ride from White Memorial Plaza.

  • To be eligible for a free evaluation, students must have at least one year of enrollment remaining before graduation.
  • You must have a completed referral form from Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), the Office of Accessible Education (OAE), Center for Teaching and learning (CTL), an Academic Advisor, or a professor. Without a formal referral, scheduling the evaluation will be indefinitely postponed.
  • You must complete a minimum of 3 meetings with a learning specialist at the SLC. We strongly encourage ongoing meetings with your learning specialist.

Aside from not completing the eligibility requirements, the following are some potential reasons students are not eligible for an evaluation with the SLC. Please note this is not an exhaustive list.

  • Unmanaged mental health issues or sleep challenges may necessitate seeking support for those issues beforehand.
  • The date by which you require a final report, or accommodations may not align with our ability to schedule and complete an evaluation.
  • You are pursuing a diagnosis solely to obtain a prescription for ADHD medication.
  • You will not be in California or the Palo Alto area. Testing sessions with the Assessment Psychologist must be conducted in-person at the SLC. Therefore, students leaving campus will need to wait until their return to start the evaluation. The intake meeting and feedback session can be conducted remotely; in accordance with the Board of Psychology, students must be physically located within California for all virtual meetings.

Sessions are available online via Zoom or in person, with flexible scheduling from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Monday through Friday

You will be given one chance to reschedule an appointment due to illness or emergency. Our Program Coordinator will try their best to reschedule you at the Assessment Psychologist’s earliest convenience. If you need to reschedule a second time, you will be placed back on the waitlist.

Intake Meeting: Attend a 90-minute intake meeting (virtual or in-person) with our Assessment Psychologist. The psychologist will gather the questions you want addressed during the evaluation, your presenting concerns, and your developmental, medical, family, and educational history.

Testing Sessions: Testing takes place over two to three 3-hour testing sessions. Testing is done in person with the Assessment Psychologist. Sessions can be scheduled within the same week or in consecutive weeks.

Feedback Session: You’ll meet with the Assessment Psychologist and assigned learning specialist to review the results and recommendations. This session will be one hour long and conducted via Zoom.

Please note that due to California Board of Psychology restrictions, you must be physically located within the state of California for all meetings with the assessment psychologist.

For additional questions, contact [email protected], and a team member will get back to you within 1-2 business days.
